Heartfelt words from our Floral Student : {Audrey Heng}

Simple is how everything started. To be exact it was just a simple table arrangement. I was not looking for anything in particular but whilst browsing online, Sarah’s works were eye-catching to say the least. Her Ikebana arrangements were not tied to tradition and this suited me just fine.

From the word “Go”, it has been a non-stop thrilling ride on the art of floristry. Sarah’s ever brimming cup of joy and passion overflows with warmth and enthusiasm. It is very infectious.

What started as the first simple table arrangement, has now gone through several arrangements, developed into more creatively thought provoking pieces. Sarah does not make things easy for you, that makes her the best kind of teacher to have. She throws you challenges and curve balls, whilst allowing you space to think, feel and create. She knows when to offer her far reaching helping hand to give you just enough support so that you can continue telling your own story.

Her Dutch masterpiece class was absolutely mindblowing. It was not just putting flowers in a pot. It was more like learning to make choices for styling. Floral choreography would be a better way of describing this class. The colour theory session was another interesting and informative class. It gives the student an insight into the behind the scenes look into what goes on during the curation of flowers, from ground zero to the final product. The acrobatic floral arrangements like the aerial installations and the cascading installations trains one to look at things from a different perspective, honing fluidity of thought and agility. This can also be said of the intensive floral course.

The skills and style that are needed especially for the more complex arrangements have evolved through Sarah’s constant encouragement, patience and hospitality. During this journey, I have not only gained a new set of skills but also a friend in a teacher. Looking forward to many more floral adventures to come!
